Description
This is a new Bizen sake cup by Yoshinobu Morimoto, an artist with an exceptional aesthetic sense who is constantly evolving in his approach to clay, firing, and craftsmanship. He has masterfully captured the wabi-sabi expression that focuses on the earthen qualities of Old Bizen, resulting in a piece brimming with highlights that seem to speak for themselves. The reddish-brown, matte surface, with a unique texture reminiscent of unglazed pottery, possesses the same color and feel as Old Bizen, to the point that it would be indistinguishable if mixed with shards of the ancient ware. The "sesame" ash glaze, which has been completely absorbed into the earthen skin just as sand absorbs water, is also identical to that of Old Bizen. Rather than emphasizing personal characteristics like the elegance of the clay or the firing, this is a rare piece in Morimoto’s body of work with a concept specialized for "drinking sake from Old Bizen."
