Description
This Oribe-hi (Oribe-scarlet) plate is a creation by Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to craft works that suit contemporary life. It is an Oribe-hidaski piece that combines the stain resistance and ease of use provided by Oribe glazing with the character development and changes over time offered by Bizen clay. Although thin and lightweight overall, it does not feel flimsy; through skillful control of the clay and techniques such as raised edges, it possesses a solid sense of volume despite its plate form. The geometric pattern, which makes the clay look as if it were folded like origami, is highly stylish, and the "presentation of surfaces"—which even takes the trailing of Oribe glaze into account—will beautifully enhance both your dishes and your dining space.
