Description

This is a new Bizen hidasuki sake vessel by Megumi Sueda, a female ceramic artist who studied under Anjin Abe and captivates fans with her unique works. Much like her mentor Anjin Abe, her vibrant hidasuki, composed of planes and lines, possesses a beauty that rivals that of ancient Bizen ware. She has taken the sake cup form inherited from Abe and transformed it into something more delicate and lovely, resulting in a truly gorgeous piece that combines a tall, smart silhouette with a stylish hexagonal base resembling a tortoiseshell pattern. The sleek, elongated form is accented by vigorous hidasuki markings, creating a style that is light and effortless, while still allowing the viewer to enjoy a very authentic, old Bizen-style hidasuki. In 2001, she began her apprenticeship under sculptor Anjin Abe. In 2002, she built a fully underground anagama kiln, "Hanae-gama," in Yokota-cho, Nita-gun, Shimane Prefecture. She has participated in group exhibitions in Tokyo in 2002, and in Sapporo and Niigata in 2003.
