Description
This is a new platinum-glazed small bowl by Toru Ichikawa, who made a striking debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. While one is immediately drawn to the highly original, avant-garde design, holding it in your hands reveals the immense passion he pours into expressing the beauty of clay as a material. Achieving these beautiful curves and edges requires a profound understanding of the clay's properties, coupled with a staggering amount of time and effort; these works are born from his relentless dedication to "forging" the clay, much like a master swordsmith. The body, which has been fired to a platinum hue, is adorned with voluminous platinum glaze, giving it a unique atmosphere that makes this ceramic piece appear as if it were cast in metal. The contrast between the hexagonal main body and the base, which has been carved as if rotating and converging, is striking.
