Description

This is a newly fired *nerikomi* (marbled clay) large sake bottle by Koji Nakahara, a student of Fumio Kawabata, who aims to create works that suit modern life. It features a graceful, symmetrical form reminiscent of a *seihakuji* (bluish-white porcelain) *heishi* vase. By hammering together more than 10 types of clay and then shaving and polishing the surface, the varying colors of the clays emerge to create a marbled effect, much like natural marble. Beyond the marble patterns, the "texture" is another hallmark of his *nerikomi* work; the soft, smooth feel achieved by polishing the clay makes it a piece you will want to hold forever. The vibrant, rainbow-like *hidasuki* (fire-cord) markings are also striking. Signed wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time for shipping).
Rim 5.5cm × Body diameter 10.9cm × Body diameter 10.7cm × Height 20.3cm; Capacity approx. 550cc Koji Nakahara was born in Osaka Prefecture in 1978. He graduated from the Advanced Course at Nara College of Arts in 2000 and from the Bizen Ceramic Center in 2001. That same year, he began his apprenticeship under Fumio Kawabata, and in 2007, he joined the Kaneshige Ritoen pottery. Since then, he has actively exhibited his work at the Japan Traditional Kogei Exhibition and various other juried competitions. He is currently an associate member of the Japan Kōgei Association.
