Description

These new Bizen maple leaf chopstick rests are by Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to create works that suit contemporary life. As a unique Bizen ware artist based in the major city of Osaka, Nakahara creates pieces for chefs at various high-end restaurants and ryotei, and these chopstick rests reflect his characteristically stylish and practical sensibility. The slightly concave maple leaf shape allows them to be used not only as chopstick rests but also as small dishes for condiments. The soft, brownish Bizen texture evokes a withered maple leaf, making them the perfect accent for any dining table. Paper box
Approx. 7.1cm (diameter) x 6.8cm (diameter) x 2.2cm (height)
(As each piece is handmade, sizes may vary slightly.) Koji Nakahara was born in Osaka Prefecture in 1978. He graduated from the Advanced Course of Nara College of Arts in 2000 and the Bizen Pottery Center in 2001. That same year, he began his apprenticeship under Fumio Kawabata, and in 2007, he joined the Kaneshige Ritoen pottery studio. Since then, he has actively exhibited his work at the Japan Traditional Kogei Exhibition and various public exhibitions. He is currently an associate member of the Japan Kōgei Association.
