Description

This is a new *nerikomi* (marbled clay) pedestal dish by Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to create works that suit modern life. The dish is characterized by a surface resembling black marble, achieved by mixing and firing several types of mountain clay. The base of the dish does not have a marbled pattern; this is because the artist first lays down a base of blended clay, then coils tube-shaped marbled clay on top before scraping it down with a spatula to reveal the marble design. As a result, the marble pattern has an interesting, swirling regularity. Paper box
