Description
This is a new Bizen sake bottle by Jumpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige, the leading figure of the Kaneshige family. This latest work was fired in his father's kiln between late October and November 2016, and continues to feature the deep overall coloration seen in his previous pieces. The "hi-iro" (scarlet) coloration is particularly magnificent, offering a rich, ripe persimmon-like hue. The scenery is of a type known as "kase-yoh-hen" (matte kiln transformation); the shoulder and neck, which faced the fire, show ash-covered kiln transformation, while the lower body facing away features a very soft-textured matte sesame glaze. The slightly wider mouth, combined with the well-extended neck, allows for a smooth, vigorous pour. As the sake bottle is seasoned with use, the matte sesame and scarlet tones will change in interesting ways.
