Description
This newly fired Bizen sake bottle is the work of Takashi Soga, an artist who challenges the beauty of antiquity by recreating the environment of the Old Bizen period. To replicate the style of the Old Bizen era, no refractory bricks or modern conveniences are used; consequently, the kiln operates outside the norms of modern thermal efficiency. This process yields a magnificent clay texture that transcends contemporary aesthetics and approaches the quality of true Old Bizen. The work masterfully reproduces the unique luster characteristic of Old Bizen, with a striking contrast between the intense, glazed sesame markings and the unglazed areas, creating a dramatic difference in surface sheen. In particular, the unglazed fire-touched sections possess a mysterious and delicate quality that could be described as "contradictory luster." It is exceptionally lightweight, making it a piece that can be "nurtured" while slowly enjoying one's sake.
