Description

This is the debut Bizen sake cup from Tomoyuki Oiwa, who has finally launched his career after mastering pottery techniques under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. This new piece is from the first kiln firing held in late November at the anagama kiln he designed and built himself in Kamigori, Hyogo Prefecture. Fired in the oxidizing atmosphere of the anagama, the bright surface is lightly coated with kase-goma ash, creating the refreshing aesthetic characteristic of the Isezaki and Kakurezaki schools. The interior, in particular, features a stunning combination of bright orange clay and rich goma glaze that is reminiscent of the work of his mentor, Kakurezaki-sensei. A small "hidari-uma" (left-facing horse) stamp next to the potter's mark adds an auspicious touch fitting for a debut piece. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.0cm × Diameter 5.9cm × Height 7.1cm Tomoyuki Oiwa was born in Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture in 1977. He completed his studies at the Bizen Pottery Center in 2004 and apprenticed under Ryuichi Kakurezaki in 2005. He became an independent artist in 2014.
