Description
This is a new Bizen sake cup by Mashiro Aiga, an artist known for creating works that are consistently forthright and possess great integrity. It combines a firing intensity unparalleled even in Bizen with a natural, relaxed form that seems to embody Aiga’s own calm and composed character. The yellow sesame glaze (kigoma) that drips down the vessel has a palpable thickness, pooling and puckering to create a textured, oil-painting-like aesthetic characteristic of the Anjin school. The large, oval-shaped opening makes it easy to hold with the thumb, index, and middle fingers, offering a rugged and wild tactile experience befitting its robust form.
Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
Diameter 8.4cm x Diameter 7.5cm x Height 5.3cm Mashiro Aiga graduated from the Okayama Prefectural Bizen Pottery Center in 1997. In 2003, he built a fully subterranean anagama kiln in Sabo, followed by a second, semi-subterranean anagama kiln in 2004, where he continues to devote himself to his craft.
