Description
This is a freshly kiln-fired sake cup from the "Painted Bizen" series by Anjin Abe, an artist who possesses profound insight into ancient ceramics and a refined aesthetic sense, and who creates one-of-a-kind works through his unique research and firing techniques. Set against a vivid gold background, the indigo-colored crashing waves and Mount Fuji are captured in a dynamic composition; the artist's masterful sense of structure is evident here, such as in the choice to depict only the snow-capped peak of the mountain. The brilliant crimson pigment, synonymous with this series, is applied as a "crimson moon" that serves as a stylish focal point within the gold. The interior of the cup features an equally vivid and beautiful crimson moon, allowing the user to enjoy a "moon-viewing" experience while drinking. The reverse side functions as a second front face, showcasing a magnificent, antique Bizen-style landscape that will impress even the most discerning collectors of ancient pottery.

Diameter 6.5cm × Diameter 5.8cm × Height 5.7cm Anjin Abe was originally a Western-style painter. After collecting ceramics as a hobby, he began creating his own pottery in 1972 to pursue the level of quality he felt was missing in contemporary Bizen ware. He is well-known for his water jars, flower vases, flattened jars, bowls, sake bottles, and sake cups, all of which are wheel-thrown and finished with a spatula. His work is rooted in the aesthetics of Momoyama-period ancient Bizen, with an uncompromising focus on firing techniques. He also creates mixed-media works that combine various materials and techniques, such as ceramics, lacquer, oil painting, and bronze, engaging in a diverse range of creative activities. He actively holds solo exhibitions both in Japan and internationally, including in Tokyo, Osaka, New York, and Paris.
