Description
This Bizen yohen sake flask is the latest freshly fired work by Kazuki Nakamura, an artist who creates profoundly tasteful pieces while carrying on the tradition of the master sake vessel craftsmen, Rokuro and Shin Nakamura. While following the lineage of these masters, this flask is quintessentially Kazuki, subtly incorporating a unique style distinct from that of his father and grandfather. The "kabura" (turnip) shape—the foundation of the Nakamura-style flattened flask—features a swelling base that allows the palm and body of the vessel to meld together when gripped by the neck. The wide mouth shows the clay stretched beautifully to its limit, and the design of the rim, opening in three directions, is a traditional Nakamura family innovation that balances ease of pouring with aesthetic appeal. The texture of the clay, with its soft scarlet hues lingering around the darkened areas, is also exquisite, making this a piece I would recommend to everyone from Bizen ware beginners to seasoned collectors.
