Description

This is a freshly fired Bizen hidaski sake cup by Kazuki Nakamura, a master who creates deeply flavorful works while following in the lineage of the renowned sake vessel craftsmen Rokuro and Shin Nakamura. While inheriting the traditions of these master makers, this cup bears the distinct signature of Kazuki, infusing his own unique sensibility into the style that sets him apart from his father and grandfather. Though hidaski (fire-cord) is the most basic firing technique and the one that allows for the least amount of deception, he has created a piece that demonstrates the quality of the clay, showing he is truly no less skilled than his predecessors. The combination of the uniquely dynamic rim—which leaves an unforgettable impression—and the carving of the foot, paired with the hidaski, is superb. The rich, thick crimson hue applied to the undulating form is so alluring that it seems to drift with the fragrant scent of the earth. Signed wooden box (two-way crossbar)
Diameter 8.0cm x Diameter 7.9cm x Height 5.3cm Kazuki Nakamura was born in 1980 as the eldest son of Shin Nakamura. After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at Okayama University in 2003, he studied under his grandfather and father to refine his ceramic skills. He held his first kiln firing and became an independent artist in 2006.
