Description
Born in Chiba Prefecture, Yuji Goseki became captivated by Bizen ware and underwent an apprenticeship under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki; this square Bizen plate is his debut work. It was created and fired at Isezaki’s studio during his time as an apprentice. The square plate has the air of a picture frame, with the *hidasuki* (fire-cord) markings and *hima* (fire-gap) from the wood-fired kiln contained in the center like a painting. When you serve food or fruit on it, it creates the fascinating and whimsical sensation of eating something from within a painting. It is somewhat thick with a sturdily curved rim, making it suitable for dishes with liquids.
