Description

This is an earlier Bizen square flat bowl by the renowned artist Shin Nakamura, son of the late Rokuro Nakamura, a master of Bizen sake ware and a household name in the creation of sake and tableware. Produced prior to 1998, this large flat bowl features a magnificent kiln-transmutation glaze that reflects the sun, a hallmark of the Nakamura family. Both the front and back showcase a brilliant scarlet clay quality, offering the meltingly sweet texture that sake aficionados crave, now in the form of functional tableware. The edges possess a gentle roundness achieved by slow hand-beating during the crafting process, which, combined with the aforementioned sweet scarlet hue, results in an incredibly soft and gentle work that evokes the warmth of the earth. (*Please note: The bottom is uneven, making the piece slightly unstable.) Signed wooden box (double-slat lid)
Diameter 28.7cm x Diameter 27.6cm x Height 4.5cm Born as the eldest son of Rokuro Nakamura, Shin Nakamura began his training under his father in 1971, building a solid foundation in the craft. To further refine his firing techniques in the tradition of Living National Treasure Toyo Kaneshige, he spent ten years assisting and receiving instruction from Michiaki Kaneshige during kiln firings. He became independent in 1975 and focuses primarily on tea ceramics and tableware, while also producing vases, sake bottles, and sake cups. He actively holds solo exhibitions in Tokyo, Okayama, Nagoya, and throughout Japan.
