Description

This is a Kohiki sake cup by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, an inner disciple of the master Sozan Kaneshige. Inherited from Sozan Kaneshige—a master who enjoyed close friendships with luminaries such as Soomaro Ishiguro and worked on a wide variety of vessels beyond just Bizen ware—this Kohiki work features the same translucent, pure white glaze as his mentor's. Its snow-like, beautiful surface exudes a sense of pristine clarity, and when chilled, it evokes the experience of savoring melted snow. While titled as a "choko," its form allows it to be used for a wide range of purposes, from a soba noodle dipping cup to a versatile drinking cup or tea cup. As is standard, it is finished with a clear glaze over the Kohiki, which will gradually develop a deeper, more sophisticated character the more it is used. Paper box
Diameter 8.8cm × Diameter 8.8cm × Height 7.8cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his pottery-loving father, he aspired to a career in ceramic art, and after graduating from high school in 1989, he apprenticed under Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho to master the craft. After seven years of training, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 to strike out on his own, and successfully fired his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, he was selected for the "Northern Confectionery Vessels I Want to Use" exhibition, and in 2002, he was selected for the "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
