Description

This Ibe sake bottle (tokkuri) is the debut work of Kosuke Yashiro, who spent his formative years dreaming of working with Bizen ware in Ibe, finally realizing his long-held ambition by building his own kiln there. It is a quintessential Bizen piece that reflects the spirit of Mr. Yashiro, who dedicated his life to Bizen pottery after falling in love with the works of the many potters born, raised, and laid to rest in Ibe. This slightly small sake bottle is crafted from mountain clay (ta-tsuchi), featuring a body roughly the size of a peach paired with a short neck reminiscent of the style of the late Susumu Kaneshige. The moss-green matte sesame glaze (kase-goma), created by firing slowly and carefully in an anagama kiln, displays a refinement and beautiful coloration that echoes the works of the Kaneshige family, showcasing the kiln-firing mastery Mr. Yashiro cultivated over his 15+ years of training. With a rounded shape that fits comfortably in the palm and a combination of exquisite scarlet hues and matte sesame glaze, this is a piece you will want to hold and enjoy as you nurture it over time. Signed wooden box to be provided later (please allow some time before shipping).

Around 2000, he began training under various kilns and artists in Ibe, Bizen City. In September 2016, he built his own kiln in Ibe and became an independent artist.
