Description

This is a brand new sake cup titled "Yatagarasu" (three-legged crow), fresh from the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a stunning debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakinazaki. It is an exceptionally creative work that exemplifies Ichikawa's style of giving form to his endless stream of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. The title references the Yatagarasu, a divine bird from Japanese mythology, and the piece features a two-tone design: black glaze evoking the three-legged crow, and vibrant red glaze representing the Yatagarasu as an embodiment of the sun. The textures differ between the glazes, with the black being smooth and the red having a coarse finish. Gold, Ichikawa's signature color, is used here between the red and black, as well as on three protrusions that resemble gold buttons. The colored lines on the wooden presentation box are arranged like a torii gate, making it appear as though the kanji for "crow" is perched upon it. Wooden presentation box (shiho-san)
Diameter 7.8cm × Diameter 6.7cm × Height 5.9cm Toru Ichikawa was born in Tokyo. He began his apprenticeship under Ryuichi Kakinazaki in June 2011 and became independent in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, in January 2015.
