Description

This is a new Bizen sake cup, fresh from the kiln by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, a former apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. Fired in late September 2017, this latest work showcases the consistent quality expected of Koriki, while also serving as an excellent example of his diverse range. Among Koriki’s works, which are celebrated for their variety of landscapes and clay qualities, this piece is a popular style that combines a persimmon-orange clay tone with a refined, matte sesame glaze. The soft, lightly fired clay absorbs sake upon use, transforming into a vibrant, ripe fruit-like color that is a delight to behold. Its mellow, well-balanced form, achieved through a relaxed potter's wheel technique, pairs perfectly with the soft scarlet hues, ensuring a wonderful tactile experience. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
Diameter 6.7cm x 6.6cm x Height 6.1cm Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his father, a pottery enthusiast, he decided to pursue a career in ceramics. After graduating from high school in 1989, he apprenticed under the master Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho to learn the craft. Following seven years of training, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and began his independent career, successfully firing his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Kita no Kashiki" (Northern Confectionery Container) Exhibition, and in 2002, he was selected for the "Chanoyu Zokei" (Forms of Tea) Exhibition for the first time.
