Description

This is a Bizen sake cup by Hisanaga Koide, who made his long-awaited debut after completing a lengthy apprenticeship under the late Juro Harada. He has skillfully incorporated the spirit of the ancient Bizen style inherited from Harada into his work, elevating it into a sake cup that stands as bold and uncompromising as a seasoned warrior. The rich, shiso-leaf-colored clay has been fired so intensely that it has taken on a matte texture, as if coated in a thin film. The sesame glaze, created by firing with mixed wood ash, has a refined, slightly greenish hue that pairs perfectly with the deep shiso color. The unique cruciform-cut base—reminiscent of Juro Harada’s work—is also intriguing, leaving an unforgettable impression from the moment you see it. Signed wooden box (shiho-san)
