Description
Born in Chiba Prefecture, Yuji Seki was captivated by Bizen ware and underwent an apprenticeship under the Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki; this piece is Seki's debut Bizen black tea bowl. It was created and fired at Jun Isezaki's studio during his apprenticeship. Exhibiting a style characteristic of a young artist, it is an exceptionally large, dynamic work—an oversized tea bowl so full of vitality that it cannot be contained within both hands. It utilizes the black slip provided by his mentor, Jun Isezaki, with a deep, lustrous black that creates a serene worldview. The large-scale form paired with the aforementioned black gives it a presence reminiscent of Seto-guro (Seto black) ware.
