Description

This is a new Bizen tea cup, fresh from the kiln, by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Kouriki, a former apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. Fired at the end of September 2017, this latest work displays the consistent high quality characteristic of Kouriki-sensei, while serving as an excellent example of his creative variety. It is a piece with refined elegance, featuring the soft clay color typical of the Kaneshige school, accented by a faint hi-dasuki (fire-cord) pattern. The sophisticated quality of the clay, inherited from Sozan Kaneshige, may appear understated at first glance, but it is of an exceptionally high standard, clearly demonstrating what sets high-quality clay apart from the rest. The cup is thinly crafted and lightweight, making it a wonderful, comfortable piece you will want to use every day. Paper box
Diameter 7.6cm × Diameter 7.6cm × Height 9.4cm Yoshiteru Kouriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Influenced by his pottery-loving father, he aspired to a career in ceramics and, after graduating from high school, began studying pottery techniques under Sozan Kaneshige and his son, Yuho Kaneshige, in 1989. After seven years of training, he built an ascending kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, to launch his independent career in 1996, and successfully fired his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual solo exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "North Country Confectionery Container Exhibition," and in 2002, he was selected for the "Chanoyu Plastic Arts Exhibition" for the first time.
