Description
This Bizen sake cup is the work of Jumpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige, the leading figure of the Kaneshige family. The first thing that draws the eye to this piece is the quality of the clay; despite being thoroughly fired, the clay retains its character, producing a rich, vivid scarlet hue. The clay visible in the interior, with its subtle orange tint, is also truly magnificent, a testament to the mellow, deeply nuanced clay tones that have been passed down through generations of dedicated clay preparation. The artist has made a diagonal cut from the front to create a seam-like effect, successfully blending Jumpei-sensei’s playful sensibilities with the Kaneshige tradition.
