Description
This is a Bizen sake cup by Takahiro Hosokawa, who continues to follow the path inspired by Bizen ware as the grandson of the master craftsman Eiraku Takemura. The piece has a profound sense of weight, as if it were carved out of solid rock, and possesses an overwhelming presence even when held in the palm of your hand. The surface itself has a rock-like texture, featuring a sophisticated red-cord (hidasuki) pattern over a base of bluish, reduction-fired clay. The coarse clay is used boldly without much blending, resulting in marble-like patterns created by the variations in the clay’s composition.
