Description

This is a new Bizen Hidasuki sake cup by Tomio Ochi, an artist who diligently dedicated himself to firing kilns under the guidance of Yasuhito Abe and continues to pour his unfulfilled aspirations into his ceramics. The Hidasuki, which seems to seep deeply into the clay surface, is characteristic of Ochi-sensei, who is highly regarded for his Hidasuki works, and is truly exceptional. The form, meticulously refined over time, has been fired at an extremely high temperature, and when held in the hand, one can feel the high-density vitrification. The dense Hidasuki and the highly vitrified clay texture combine to create a "profound Hidasuki" unique to Ochi-sensei, unlike anything else. This piece features a slight modification to his previous forms, incorporating a design symbolic of the Abe school that resembles a blossoming petal. Signed wooden box to be provided later (please note that it will take some time before shipment) Diameter 7.7cm × Diameter 7.1cm × Height 5.0cm Tomio Ochi graduated from Niihama Technical High School in Ehime Prefecture in 1949. He moved to Tokyo in 1952 to study oil painting and sculpture. Thereafter, while working for a company, he devoted himself to painting and sculpture. In 1997, he visited Yasuhito Abe in Ushimado, Setouchi City, Okayama Prefecture, to receive his tutelage. He built his own kiln in Ushimado in 1998, and has since been working on Bizen ware, applying the experience he gained from studying sculpture and painting.
