Description
This is a brand new Bizen ware plate, fresh from the kiln by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, a former live-in apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. This latest piece, from an early summer 2018 firing, captures the true quality of the clay that is characteristic of Koriki's work. The front features a calm, subdued scarlet hue that appears as if the earth naturally colored itself, while the *hidasuki* (fire-cord) technique creates a soft orange tone that highlights the colors of the food served while promising the classic aging characteristic of Bizen ware. Conversely, the reverse side reveals a vivid scarlet that expresses the power and vitality of the clay, a stunning display of color variation in a plate only a few millimeters thick. The foot is meticulously carved for ease of use, making this a high-standard piece in every aspect—from the clay to the firing and the form.
