Description

This is a new Bizen black sake cup by Takashi Baba, an artist born in Imbe who has loved Bizen ware since childhood and finds his life's joy in creating works and firing kilns. This Bizen black sake cup features the slipped-clay technique in which Mr. Baba specializes; the combination of firing in an anagama kiln and the black slip creates a novel landscape. The slip changes color sensitively due to the intense firing, resulting in a lustrous black on the front and a mysterious, gunmetal-like coloration on the back. The rim and interior are generously coated with "goma" (ash glaze), which has shifted to a gray tone to match the black, flowing like rain to form "nagare-goma" (streaming ash). The foot is particularly intriguing, with a blue-silver surface created by a blend of the black slip and gold accents. Signed wooden box (shiho-san) included
