Description
This is a new ceramic-bodied teapot in ancient vermilion by Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to create works that suit contemporary life. It is a piece of "totai shikki" (lacquerware with a ceramic base), and its primitive vermilion surface is exceptionally stylish. By applying the "byakudan-nuri" (sandalwood lacquer) technique, gold designs resembling "makie" have been painted on the interior and exterior, evoking an intriguing, powerful, and divine atmosphere reminiscent of ancient ritual vessels. True to Mr. Nakahara's pursuit of the possibilities of ceramics, this masterpiece incorporates the beautiful hues of red lacquer while retaining the unique texture and functionality of the ceramic base.
