Description

This is a new Bizen sake cup by Jumpei Kaneshige, the eldest son of Kosuke Kaneshige, the leading figure of the Kaneshige family. He is committed to the traditional Kaneshige method of clay preparation, using only clay refined entirely by hand without the use of a pug mill, and aged for several decades before use. The exquisite, melting scarlet hue conveys the superior quality of the clay; despite being an unglazed *yakishime* piece made solely from clay, it possesses a lush, fruit-like color. This sake cup features a rare *kase-yohen* (matte kiln change) landscape, of which very little is produced even within a single firing; it is a masterpiece that combines the tree-bark-like texture characteristic of *kase-goma* (matte sesame glaze) with the dull, metallic-like *haikaburi* (ash-covered) landscape typical of kiln changes. The cup has a comfortable weight in the hand—a pleasing quality for a sake vessel—and its timeless style allows you to enjoy the wonderful tactile quality of the clay and the scenery as you nurture it over the years. Signed wooden box to be provided later
