Description

This Bizen ware rice bowl is the work of Shusaku Taku, an artist who shapes his pieces using the emotions of daily life as his "yeast," while honoring the Bizen tradition that has matured alongside the lives of people through the ages. True to Taku’s approach of crafting each piece with the care to reach the heart of the user, this smaller rice bowl is meticulously detailed down to the finest points. While many Bizen rice bowls feature the gentle firing typical of *ta-tsuchi* (rice paddy clay), this piece reflects Taku’s strong personal vision, resulting in a sophisticated, weathered aesthetic. The rich, deep coloration—a hallmark of Taku, who is also an aficionado of clays—is captivating, with the cold, withered brownish-red *hidasuki* (fire-cord) markings characteristic of his recent kilns appearing truly magnificent. The outer surface displays an exceptionally deep brownish clay base with dense yellow *goma* (ash glaze), creating a scene so dignified it feels like more than just a rice bowl. No box
