Description
This black beer tumbler is the work of Masao Akitani, an artist who studied under Living National Treasure Jun Isezaki and creates works brimming with unique originality within a new aesthetic spirit. Crafted using the "Kuro-Bizen" (black Bizen) technique inherited from his mentor, Jun Isezaki, the piece features a remarkably lovely black finish that is deep and lustrous, yet warm in tone. It is made using black clay from Osafune Isokami, famous for sword making, which is dissolved and applied to the surface to create a beautiful black skin. Fired in an inverted position, the bottom features vibrant "tobi-goma" (splashed sesame glaze), while the interior showcases a solid scarlet hue from "hidasuki" (fire-cord) firing, creating a magnificent contrast with the black of the exterior. (There is a depression in the clay on the rim, which is not a defect.)
