Description

This is a Bizen small bowl by the popular young artist Yoshiteru Koriki, who was an apprentice to the master Sozan Kaneshige. Made using high-quality mountain clay, the rich, viscous shiso-colored surface is so tactile that one might mistake it for something that would melt to the touch. The interior is generously coated in "sesame" ash glaze, creating a quintessential Bizen-yaki landscape that acts as a superb supporting player to enhance the colors of the food served. Furthermore, as the surface changes to an indescribable hue by absorbing moisture from the food, it truly embodies the essence of Bizen tableware, which is said to reach its final completion only when food is plated upon it. *A shipping fee of 500 yen applies. Yoshiteru Koriki was born in Ako City, Hyogo Prefecture. Inspired by his father's love for pottery, he aspired to pursue a career in ceramics. After graduating from high school in 1989, he studied under the master potters Sozan Kaneshige and his son Yuho to learn the craft. Following seven years of training, he built his own climbing kiln in Shizutani, Bizen City, in 1996 and established his independence, successfully firing his first kiln the following year. He held his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2000 and has held annual exhibitions ever since. In 1999, his work was selected for the "Confectionery Container Exhibition," and in 2002, it was selected for the "Tea Ceremony Modeling Exhibition" for the first time.
