Description
This is a new Bizen three-headed dragon sake cup by Koji Nakahara, who studied under Fumio Kawabata and aims to create works that suit modern life. The sake cup is inspired by the legendary giant monster King Ghidorah, and one cannot help but be amazed by Nakahara's uniquely creative concept. With intricate details not only in the horns and mane but also in the scales, the design is so elaborate that you might find yourself forgetting to drink as you admire it; it is designed not merely as a vessel for drinking, but as a vessel for enjoying the act of drinking. The entire piece is finished with a beautiful silver glaze, which, combined with the white-gray clay body, makes the work appear as if it has been coated in platinum. The texture is also uniformly grainy, and when combined with the mysterious, faintly shimmering surface, it matches the three-headed dragon design perfectly.
Includes wooden storage box (shiho-zan).
Koji Nakahara was born in Osaka Prefecture in 1978. He graduated from the Advanced Course at Nara College of Arts in 2000 and the Bizen Pottery Center in 2001. Since then, he has actively exhibited his work at the Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition and various other public exhibitions. He is currently an associate member of the Japan Kōgei Association.
