Description
This is a brand new "Fusion" *kiritate* (cylindrical vessel) fresh from the kiln by Toru Ichikawa, who made a sensational debut after studying under Ryuichi Kakurezaki. It is a highly original and exceptional piece that reflects Ichikawa's signature style of manifesting his ceaseless flow of ideas through the supreme medium of clay. The title "Fusion" reflects his challenge to transcend the boundaries of ceramics and metal, aiming for a new form of expression. Featuring a Shino-style feldspar glaze applied alongside platinum and gold luster, the piece truly embodies its title, appearing as though distinct materials have been fused together while retaining their individual character. The pale orange hue of the feldspar glaze feels somewhat skin-like, creating a mysterious atmosphere as if organic and inorganic substances have merged. Though titled *kiritate*—another name for a cylindrical *mukozuke*—its lightweight and easy-to-handle nature makes it versatile for use not only as a side dish vessel but also as a small beer glass or teacup. Furthermore, this work comes with a custom-made saucer of the same design, allowing them to be used as a set.
