Description
Jun Isazaki is a Living National Treasure of Bizen ware. (The fifth person to be designated for Bizen ware)
He fires his works using a straight tunnel-shaped kiln called an "Anagama."
The flames of the Anagama kiln rush into the back of the kiln in a single burst.
The fired pieces exhibit gradations of brown or white against a bright red base.
He wraps rice straw around his works before firing them.
The color and pattern of the rice straw vary from section to section due to the effects of natural glaze.
