Description

Shuroku Harada studied antique Bizen ware.
He was a student of the ceramics researcher Matasaburo Katsura.
The knowledge he gained serves as the foundation for his pottery style.
He has not fired a kiln in recent years.
This tokkuri was fired by him around 1993.
The green, glassy natural glaze is a very characteristic shade of his work.
He uses not only pine, but also various other types of wood as fuel.
The large, oval body is based on an antique Bizen ware piece known as an Imo-Tokkuri.
It is a brilliant design, typical of his keen study of old ceramics.

He was born in Okayama Prefecture in 1941.
He became a potter in 1969.
He became a disciple of Matasaburo Katsura in 1975 and studied Old Bizen.
