Description
Kosuke Kaneshige, a leading figure of the Kaneshige family, is the son of Toyo Kaneshige, the great revivalist of modern Bizen ware. This is a Bizen Guinomi by the artist.
The magnificent Hai-kaburi kiln effects created through the Korogashi firing technique, one of the hallmarks of the Kaneshige tradition, are particularly impressive. The black and silvery surface possesses a captivating beauty that invites endless admiration.
Inside the Guinomi, warm ochre-colored clay tones spread across the surface. The swirling wheel marks, reminiscent of a whirlpool, change their appearance depending on how the light falls upon them, creating delicate variations of light and shadow across the richly expressive clay.
Unlike the rough and gritty texture often associated with Hai-kaburi works, this piece has been meticulously finished with the time and care characteristic of the Kaneshige family. Despite its powerful ash-covered kiln effects, the surface is remarkably smooth and inviting to the touch.
The foot features Kaneshige’s characteristic sharp trimming in the Tokin style. Its crisp and distinctive form harmonizes beautifully with the dignified body, which recalls the powerful elegance of his father, Toyo Kaneshige.
