Hello everyone, how are you doing?
It is early spring, yet we have had sudden cold spells, and I hear there are even some places where you can see cherry blossoms and snow at the same time.
It will likely get warmer from here on out, but please take great care of your health.
Now, today I would like to introduce the latest work by the up-and-coming, popular young artist, Mr. Takashi Baba.
These are the latest pieces from the TORSO series, newly created from this recent kiln firing.
In fact, these were made as sake bottles (tokkuri) and are designed to fit perfectly in the palm of your hand.
They strongly retain the sculptural atmosphere that forms the basis of the TORSO concept,
and when you place several of them together, they have the feel of an installation piece.
They serve their "purpose" as vessels, and when you put them back on the display shelf, they transform into art—
they are wonderful works overflowing with ideas that are truly characteristic of Mr. Baba.

Just placing two of them side-by-side creates an installation piece that commands the space.

The piece on the left in the photo. The "goma" (ash glaze) has reacted brilliantly to the modeling.

The piece on the right in the photo. The skin, with its gradation from deep purple to black, is also lovely.
