It has been a while since our last arrival update on November 18th,
but today I would like to introduce the new Ibe plates by Mashiro Aiga.
Although he may appear to lead a quiet, understated life of pottery-making, Mr. Aiga is in reality an incredibly hard worker.
As his reputation has continued to grow in recent years, we at our gallery, who have carried his work since his debut, are deeply moved.
Mr. Aiga is not the type of artist who possesses genius-level skills or superhuman talent.
He is the kind of person who retreats to his workshop to work silently, continuing to face the potter's wheel even while covered in mud.
I believe that when Mr. Aiga confronts the path of pottery, he faces it with more sincerity than anyone else.
He stubbornly adheres to his own aesthetics, endlessly repeating the process of creating, breaking, and creating again.
His greatest weapon, I believe, is his ability to judge his own creations with a stricter eye than anyone else.
Every piece that passes his discerning standards is one that can be viewed with complete peace of mind.
Thanks to Mr. Aiga's careful selection, all five pieces have achieved outstanding firing results.
The back side, where no slip has been applied, features a stunning gradation of the clay's natural texture.
The rich, golden 'sesame' ash glaze looks as if it were scooped up from gold dust..
The texture of the clay on the back differs for each of the five pieces, capturing the subtle variations characteristic of hand-crafted earthware.

True to Mr. Aiga’s style—where even the pieces he produces in low volume are of solo-exhibition quality—these are all exceptionally high-standard, wonderful set plates.
They are priced at 6,000 yen each, making them perfect for everyday use, but they come in a five-compartment box, so they would also make excellent gifts.
